UBC undergraduate students win awards for international research

UBC student Andrew Hughes was awarded Best Oral Presentation at the Universitas 21 Undergraduate Research Conference for his research on the role of brain hemispheres in processing emotion.  

Undergraduate student Nicholas FitzGerald won the Most Imaginative Research award for a system he developed that automatically summarizes online product reviews. 

The Universitas 21 Undergraduate Research Conference was held in Melbourne, Australia from July 1-7.  The conference celebrates the best creativity in international undergraduate research. 

UBC funded three students to showcase their work at the conference. The selection process was facilitated through Go Global at UBC.  Eligible candidates had won prizes at UBC’s Multi-Disciplinary Undergraduate Research Conference or received UBC’s Undergraduate Research Award.
